TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE

(TCM) is an amazing system of healing work that has been practiced for thousands of years. TCM is an umbrella that includes not only acupuncture but fire cupping, Chinese Herbal Medicine, gua sha (dermal friction), medical bodywork and moxibustion to name a few. It is a way of interacting with the physical body, energetic body and spirit at the same time. The signs and symptoms a person presents with will show where there are imbalances, stress and stuck energy. Treatments using these tools to not only move the Qi and relax the nervous system but can also physically release tense muscle tissue.

The practice of acupuncture is based on the meridian system. There are over 400 acupuncture points on the body located in places that will often highlight a joint, trigger point, underlying structure or organ and in places that show the strongest energetic pull or electrical activity. The needles are used in these points for a variety of reasons depending on how you look at it. There are some who look at TCM from a strictly traditional perspective, referring only to what the texts and elders have shared or documented with a focus on moving Qi and blood, interacting with the organ systems and balancing the emotions. In contrast, there are some who work only with a very "Western" or physical therapy type approach focused on releasing muscles, increasing blood flow to injury and stimulating nerves. I embrace the many perspectives on the mechanisms and benefits of this medicine as to not limit it's amazing capabilities.

Very simply, acupuncture means that needles are inserted into the skin to elicit a response. The needles are single use, sterile, stainless steel and extremely thin. When the needle is inserted, it creates a micro-trauma in the skin, muscle or nerve which stimulates a healing response. This encourages your body to heal itself and regulate the associated systems with the area that was targeted. Acupuncture also has a regulating effect on the nervous system, which explains why it is so well known to help with stress.

FIRE CUPPING

involves briefly inserting a flame into glass cups to remove oxygen, the cups then suction onto the skin creating a pulling sensation. This suction is able to pull and release tense muscles, calm the nervous system and bring more blood flow and healing to the treated area. This way of treating is not painful, but in some areas can feel intense like a deep tissue massage. You may have seen pictures of celebrities with red circles on their backs, you may or may not experience redness for up to a week.

GUA SHA

is the practice of using a small ceramic tool to gently scrape an area on the skin. Sensation associated with this treatment is very relaxing and releasing. It is typically used to target a tense muscle or knot by encouraging blood flow, forcing the muscle to relax and the body to heal any trauma.

CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

is a way of using herbs that is quite different from the way we usually utilize herbs in this part of the world. Herbs are rarely taken by themselves and are blended into a formula composed of anywhere from 3 to 15 herbs that work together to create a perfect synergy. This way of using herbal medicine is very potent and yet there are still very few side effects that could potentially come up. Many of the herbs are plants, roots, seeds and things we have heard of like turmeric and licorice. Sometimes you will see minerals, tree resin or things derived from an animal, such as gelatin or cicada molting. Interestingly, there are many pharmaceuticals that have been derived from these herbs and concentrated into something much more potent and in some cases toxic.

H.A.R.T. Method-Beyond Maya Abdominal Therapy

is supportive bodywork for anything related to reproductive, urinary, digestive organs as well as pain issues associated with the back or pelvis. This way of working with the body combines Maya Abdominal Therapy with techniques from the Aztec, Nahuatl and Mixteca cultures.

Craniosacral Therapy

combines gentle touch, subtle physical manipulation and energetic releasing techniques. This form of therapeutic touch is a great way to release muscular tensions related to stress, misalignment or even guarding. The gentle touch and movement guides the nervous system from "fight or flight" into "rest digest" and helps your body learn how to stay there.

 Reiki

is a form of energy work that involves hand positions either on or above the body to influence chakra alignment and energetic balancing. Receiving reiki energy is an impactful and deeply relaxing experience.

Holistic Coaching

keeps you on your path to wellness. It encourages you to explore the wisdom you already hold and feel motivated to take action. Coaching is discussion, reflection, listening, encouragement, guidance and support. This opportunity for accountability can make all the difference when there are changes and new ways of caring for yourself that you are trying to adopt.

Micro-needling

Microneedling Therapy also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), SkinPen or Dermapen, is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure. It involves a medical pen-like device with 12 tiny needles on the end. The needles are single use and sterile, stainless steel. The mechanical action of the pen allows the needles to puncture the skin and create a controlled injury at a specific depth. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers a natural healing process to fill these micro wounds by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis. The channels allow for super absorption of any serum or product applied by up to 2,000 percent. Microneedling results in the improvement in skin tone, texture and firmness, as well as smoothing for reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. The serums used are lab-grade and blended specifically for your unique skin.

This treatment actually creates healthier skin and can be used instead of toxic or damaging procedures. Microneedling does not “burn” your skin like peels or more invasive lasers and it does not damage muscles or cause atrophy like botox.

For the best results, a series of at least three treatments are recommended. These should be spaced out at least four weeks. Monthly treatments are ideal for anyone who is serious about taking care of their skin and committed to prevention.

A majority of patients report only a few hours of red or pink sensitive skin and are able to go back to normal activities (with a few cautions) the following day.
